wedge politics
Please help me with this homework?!!!?

I am 32, so I am not trying to get you all to do my homework. I just need help with this one question…
The following is not a good sentence. Explain why and write your revised version.
Sentence: Evidence that wedge issue politics has the effent of adding to racial tensions and conflict between groups, a prospect which the LA uprising of 1991 clearly showed could have disastrous consequences if left unchecked.

Thanks guys…..

I think the original sentence is a bit verbose. Assuming “effent” is meant to be “effect”, you do not need to explain to the reader that the evidence and effect is to be presented. It will be inferred by the reader anyway… “conflict between groups” can be shortened to just “group conflict”, and “LA uprising of 1991″ can written differently as well. I think the proposition your seeking is basically “If wedge issue politics go unchecked, then violent uprisings will occur”. But because of the way the sentence is written, it is difficult to tell whether you think wedge issue politics is a causation for violent uprisings or merely one of numerous related conditions for it. I would consider these revisions as well….

Racial tensions and group conflict reflected through instances like the 1991 Los Angeles riots clearly show the disastrous consequences of unchecked wedge issue politics.

If left unchecked, wedge issue politics can have disastrous consequences. A fact supported by such violent uprisings as the 1991 Los Angeles riots.

Hope this helps a little.
