What are the main functions of political parties and why are these functions important?

I think they have become a key problem with creating dysfunction in representing the interests of the “We the people” as they divide and conquer us with “evil other party” blame games. The two super parties have figured out that they can play it out against each other with “evil other party” blame games. People have been conditioned to think that if they vote for a third party candidate that they threw away their vote on someone who cannot possibly win and let that “evil other party” candidate win. So they choose the lesser of two evils. I have concluded that the super parties are two sides of the same coin. Neither are worth the cooper they are imprinted on with regards to serving the interests of “We the people” and we have been suckered into voting them in repeatedly. Our regestering as a member of one or the other is their “security blanket” and it is time we make our selves undeclared. Vote 3rd party if they have a better candidate and reject the lesser of the two evils.

Leaders of main parties reiterate need for consensus
