Religion and politics: Are there people on Yahoo who believe we should be a theocracy rather than a democracy?
Should we only allow Christian Presidents? Should we only allow White Presidents? Should we only allow Presidents who hold specific cultural views and how do you square this with the constitution that says otherwise? If you believe yes, are you really Pro-America or only Pro-Your-Own-Belief-System? And how would you square that with democracy?
Maybe someone will give a serious answer at some point. The first 3 say otherwise.

Yes, there are such people.
In this country, we have a large number of people who display a tremendous degree of civic ignorance. I recall a survey a while back that indicated that a startling high percentage of high school students thought that the government should do more to restrict freedom of the press, and that citizens shouldn’t be allowed to express unpopular opinions. It doesn’t surprise me then, that there are people who don’t understand the significance of the establishment clause in the first amendment since there are apparently many that don’t even understand the “free speech” part of it.
As long as people are fervently religious, and are willing to vote for whomever makes the best superficial display of sharing their “values” as good Christians, the candidates will pander to that segment of the population — which in turn legitimizes them, and further perpetuates the problem.
It’s a sad state of affairs, but fortunately in this election cycle “values” seem to be taking a back seat to more pressing concerns, and religiosity in general seems to be on the decline.
